IS MY CHILD OLD ENOUGH TO USE THE KOINITE SEAT?

The Koinite seat is designed for kids 2 years and older, but every child is different – and you know your little one best. We have kids as young as 18 months who are loving riding up-front, but as a general guide, the following signs are a good indication that your little person is ready to ride Koinite:

  • They can sit unaided
  • They can follow basic instructions
  • They can stay awake (for the length of your bike ride)

WHEN WILL MY CHILD OUTGROW THE KOINITE SEAT?

The Koinite seat have maximum weight limits of 22kg and 27kg respectively, which for most kids will see them safely riding Koinite seat until 5 or 6 years – or until they are more interested in riding their own bike instead, which is a great result.

CAN I ADJUST THE HEIGHT OF THE FOOT-PEGS, OR EXTEND THE LEGS OF THE KOINITE SEAT?

The Koinite Pro has extendable legs to grow with your rider, but the Koinite seat does not. However on both seats you can rotate the legs forward or back to suit your rider.

IS MY CHILD TOO TALL TO USE THE KOINITE SEAT?

The Koinite seat does not have a maximum height limit, but if your child is 4 or 5 years old, and is very tall for their age, and you the parent are rather short – you may struggle to see over your child's helmet whilst riding.

We are yet to have a Koinite seat returned for this reason, but each child, adult and bike are unique. If you're concerned, we suggest taking the Koinite seat for a test ride at your local stockist.

Why choose a front mounted child bike seat?

On this page you'll find information about the difference between front and rear mounted seats, and what makes the Koinite seat different.

FRONT VERSUS REAR MOUNTED CHILD SEATS.

If you're looking to take your little one riding, the first step is to decide whether you'd like them sitting in front or behind you – and as you can tell, we think front is best for the reasons below.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS & HOW TO ASSEBLE VIDEO

Before using the Koinite seat, read through the following checklist. This checklist is also included with every Koinite seat sold.

1. Follow the fitting instructions

Incorrect fitting can increase the risk of accident, injury or death, or damage to the frame of your bike. Follow the fitting instructions supplied with your Koinite seat, and contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding the suitability of the Koinite seat for your bike.

2. Check your bike

Check your bike before fitting the Koinite seat, including brakes, tyres and other components. If your bike is not in sound mechanical condition, do not use the Koinite seat. Ensure that there are no sharp objects which the child can touch whilst using the Koinite seat.

3. Wear an approved helmet

For safety, the rider and the passenger must wear standards approved bicycle helmets at all times.

4. Wear closed shoes and appropriate clothing

The passenger must wear enclosed shoes at all times, and keep hands, feet and clothes away from all moving parts to minimise risk of accident, injury or death. Children need to be more warmly clothed than riders of cycles and should be protected from the rain.

5. Use both hands

The rider and passenger must each hold onto the handlebars with both hands at all times. Failure to do so increases the risk of accident, injury or death.

6. Ride with care

Your bike may ride and respond differently with a passenger on it, particularly with regard to balance, steering and braking. The movability of your handlebar may also be reduced by the use of the Koinite seat. Ride carefully at all times and ride well within your ability.

7. Stay safe

Do not use the seat if any part is broken. Check the security of fasteners frequently. Re-check from time to time that the child's weight and size do not exceed the maximum limit.

8. Be careful

The Koinite seat is not for racing, or for use with jumps, drop-offs, stunts or advanced trails. The Koinite seat has no restraint, and does not claim to protect your passenger any more than your own bike seat protects you. Ride slowly and carefully to minimise the risks and maximise enjoyment.

PRODUCT SAFETY

The Koinite seat is designed for use on mountain bikes, and relies on active participation by children above the age of 2 years, not babies. Active participation by the child helps develop core bike riding skills such as leaning, balancing and turning. The centre positioning of the Koinite seat also allows rear suspension to activate unhindered, and the weight of the passenger in the centre of the bike adds improved stability and control for off-road use.

There is currently no safety standard that applies to the active participation category of child seats. Kids Ride Koinite Limited warrants that the Koinite seat is safe for its intended use, in accordance with the fitting and safety information supplied with each Koinite seat sold.

Koinite Limited is committed to raising the next generation of mountain bikers and is continually developing the safety and compliance of its products to meet global industry standards.
